For the next two weeks he’ll be your eyes and ears in the Jordan Jungle. But now Ian Strachan recalls his own personal Bushtucker Trial with the Brighton beauty.
If you believed all the hype that has surrounded Jordan over the last few years, her latest exploits in the Australian jungle could well have come as a bit of a shock.
Far from being a useless bit of eye candy, the pin-up legend has already put her fellow contestants to shame while being introduced to a selection of creepy crawlies, conquered a very nasty Bushtucker Trial and earned the respect of thousands of viewers all over the country.
Who’d have thought that when 18-year old Jordan from Brighton first appeared on Page 3 way back in 1996, it would be the start of a phenomenon, which quite literally, grew, grew some more and grew again in to the 32FF pin-up legend she is today?
There’s no doubt that expectant eyes will remain on her during this, the third series of ITV’s hit show, but while Ant and Dec crawl through the jungle hoping to catch an eyeful, I’ll be reminiscing about my first encounter with the Brighton bombshell.
I first met Jordan during a photo shoot for a motoring magazine I edited. We’d invited the virtually unknown and pre-op Jordan to be our guest model for the month, what we hadn’t expected was a larger than life teenager with shed loads of attitude.
The model shoots generally consisted of a few hours in the studio and then out on location with whatever car we had on test that month. So, once the make-up artist had done her stuff I went in to introduce myself.
I could tell straight away that she wasn’t shy, most models appreciated a modicum of privacy whilst changing, however, Jordan began undressing halfway through our conversation about the day’s itinerary. I thought she’d stop and wait for me to leave the room, but she carried on and a Mexican standoff ensued!

Neither of us would budge. I was determined to finish my little chat and she was determined to get naked. She won! A little flustered, I made my excuses and left the room, knowing full well that I’d just been completely stitched up by this fresh young girl.
By the time I’d gathered my composure, the photographer was hard at work, I could tell by the sweat patches on his shirt! He’d obviously been subjected to the same vibe I had as he was working with three cameras, one with standard 35mm film, another 120mm large format and the final one for stuff we could never publish!
I once again tried to concentrate while explaining to the now completely naked Jordan exactly what was expected of her. It wasn’t easy. I eventually stuttered and stumbled my way through the brief and was able to make my escape.
By the end of the day, the entire office was in a fluster. Jordan, now fully clothed, said her goodbyes and being the gentleman that I am, I offered her a lift to the train station. It was certainly easier to talk to her while she was clothed, but not quite as memorable and as she walked towards the train station entrance, I thought to myself ‘There’s one to remember for the future.”
If only I’d known what was to come!
