Devastatingly beautiful Rachel was a Page 3 favourite for almost seven years, but she’d almost given up hope of ever appearing on the nation’s favourite page when her test shoot with Beverley Goodway still hadn’t appeared after six months.
“I’d more or less given up on the idea. After six months you tend to get the message,” she reflected.
But the 34C beauty was destined to become a Page 3 star, although she’s never been particularly over the moon with her debut:
"I look back on that particular picture now and cringe! My hair was all layered and hairsprayed and bouffant, no doubt dead fashionable at the time but hideous now.”
It didn’t take long for the 17-year-old to get in to the swing of things though.
"It was crazy, one day I was just plain Rachel and the next I was a Page 3 girl, and everything changed dramatically. It was great fun while it lasted - but then you get a bunch of pretty girls together there's bound to be fun.
"I visited all sorts of lovely places around the world which I would never have got to see had I worked in an office.
"But you have to remember it’s not a holiday - it's work and that could mean leaping out of bed at 7am because the light was right or because you needed to top up your tan. I sometimes thought maybe I should have been a brickie or something!"
You couldn’t get much further from a brickie in our eyes and Rachel continued to entertain the nation until 1985, when she decided to pull up her bra straps and expand her horizons.
After leaving Page 3, Rachel could be spotted Rachel on various TV programmes - including the Fast Show - but philosophy was always the main passion in her life and she continued to pursue her interest even while fully clothed.
No stranger to fame, and during the 90sRachel could be regularly found mixing it up with the stars in the Groucho Club and became good friends with the artist Tracey Emmin.
By 1996 Rachel was living with her boyfriend, the photographer Iain McKell, and their daughter Jasmine and had become great friends with the comic author Willie Donaldson.
Not much is known about our 90s babe now, but wherever she is, we thanks her for her time on Page 3 and we’re going to take some time to have a proper look at her contribution, so why don’t you join us.
